AIADMK-BJP Alliance: In a major political announcement, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday confirmed that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will contest the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections under the leadership of former Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami (EPS). This declaration reportedly positions EPS as the Chief Ministerial candidate of the NDA in the state. However, the confirmation is yet to be given on the part of BJP.
AIADMK-BJP Alliance Sealed
In a joint press meet between AIADMK and BJP at a private hotel in Chennai, Shah expressed strong confidence in the AIADMK-BJP alliance, asserting that the coalition will form the next government in Tamil Nadu. Amit Shah clarified that the BJP had not placed any demands on the AIADMK in forming the alliance, describing the partnership as "organic" and based on mutual understanding.
On BJP-AIADMK alliance, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said, as per ANI, "Seat distribution and the distribution of ministries after the government is formed, both will be decided later."
'DMK Diverting Attention With NEET, Sanatana Dharma'
Amit Shah accused the DMK of repeatedly bringing up issues such as the three-language policy, Sanatana Dharma, and delimitation to divert public attention from real concerns.
The Union Minister said, as per PTI, "We will sit with AIADMK (since their stand on these issues is different from the BJP-led NDA) and discuss with them on these issues and if needed, there will be a common minimum programme."
OPS, TTV To Be Part Of Alliance?
When asked about the possible inclusion of former Chief Minister O Panneerselvam or AMMK leader TTV Dhinakaran in the NDA alliance alongside the AIADMK, Shah said it was an internal matter of the party and refrained from offering any further comment.
